Seed head of Clematis columbiana.
Seed head of Clematis columbiana taken along the Columbine Canyon trail in the Carson National Forest, 15 July 2004. Species of Clematis are commonly seen along forest trails in New Mexico. This seed head is one of the prettiest amoung the species and reminds me of Medusa's head.
Overview of Geranium caespitosum taken along the Black Canyon Trail in the Santa Fe National Forest, 3 August 2001. This wild relative of the common geranium found around homes, has a gorgeous purple/magenta bloom. The leaves are distinctive and easy to identify for the genus.
